The Yapa

June 1, 2007 · 2 Comments

Productive day.  I even got a “yapa” at the end of the day.  A “yapa” is a little something extra thrown in for free…usually when you buy something much more substancial.

After an afternoon of work cleaning up around the new chicken coop I was given an informal “yapa” of my own. My coworker insisted that I enjoy some of the morcilla from one of the hogs we slaughtered last week.  This morcilla was composed of rice, hog fat, hog blood, banana, peanut paste, and assorted spices all bundled together in its sticky goodness inside of a pig intestine.  I think that qualifies for what Dr. Paul Farmer calls the “5th Food Group.”  It´s not particularly appetizing, but it won´t kill you…at least not right away.

Is this some right of passage? If so, you passed, man ! Well, enough out of me for now, I’m off to Taco Bell for a snack. love you – jc
